Merina Sofiati,

​

 

Merina Sofiati is a seasoned humanitarian professional with over 17 years of field experience in emergency response and disaster management across Indonesia and Southeast Asia. Her distinguished career includes service with the Indonesia National Disaster Management Authority (BNPB), as well as deployments with the ASEAN Emergency Response and Assessment Team (ERAT) and the United Nations Disaster Assessment and Coordination (UNDAC) Team.

 

An LPDP Awardee (PK-244) and graduate of Tulane University’s MSc in Disaster Resilience Leadership, Merina combines deep operational expertise with a research-driven understanding of resilience and leadership in crisis environments. 

 

Alongside her work with Disaster Science LLC, Merina is completing her PhD at the Institute for Risk and Disaster Reduction, University College London (UCL), where her research advances global frameworks for disaster preparedness and response. Her work focuses on the intersection of disaster risk reduction and internally displaced populations (IDPs), strengthening resilience strategies that enhance protection, recovery, and long-term adaptation for displaced communities across the Asia region.

At Disaster Science, Merina serves as a Chief Resilience Officer, bringing an international perspective to resilience planning, humanitarian coordination, and capacity-building programs. Her leadership ensures that every project aligns with global best practices while remaining grounded in local realities and community-driven solutions.
