About this data. Earthquakes (magnitude 4.5 and above) come from the U.S. Geological Survey. Floods, tropical cyclones, volcanoes, droughts and wildfires outside the United States come from the Global Disaster Alert and Coordination System (GDACS, a United Nations and European Commission initiative). United States wildfires come from NASA EONET. Disease outbreaks come from the World Health Organization’s Disease Outbreak News, which WHO publishes when an event may have international public health implications, so entries are less frequent than hazard alerts and do not include every local outbreak. Counts include events that are new or updated in the period, and long-running floods and droughts stay listed while they are active. Wildfire entries group the satellite-detected fire areas in each country. This page is an information service and not an official warning. In an emergency, follow your national or local authorities.
